MANILA, Philippines - Alleged Eastern Visayas drug lord Kerwin Espinosa revealed that he had gross sales of about P50 million yearly in the illegal drugs trade during a Senate probe on the death of his father, Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr, on Wednesday, November 23.
The younger Espinosa pointed out that from the gross sales, he was giving out P20 million to individual protectors linked to his illegal drug network. In 2016, Espinosa said he only earned about P30 to 35 million.
"Sa P50 million, your honor, may P20 (million) plus ako na payola,” Espinosa said during the Senate hearing.
In his testimony, Espinosa said he gave Senator Leila de Lima P8 million in drug payoffs through former lover and driver Ronnie Dayan.
De Lima, who was present in the hearing, denied all accusations made against her by Espinosa.
Slain Father Innocent
The self-confessed drug trafficker also emphasized that his slain father was not involved in narcotics and wasn’t capable of supplying information about the illegal drug trade. He made the statement to disprove claims that his father executed an affidavit linking several personalities to narcotics.
“Ang papa ko ay walang kinalaman, inosente siya. Ako ang may alam sa lahat dahil dito sa sinalaysay ko,” he said.
The elder Espinosa allegedly made the said affidavit two days before he was killed on November 5.
Richard Gomez and Other Personalities Cleared
During the probe, the suspected crime kingpin denied having transactions and giving drug money to personalities like actor and Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez, Leyte Rep. Vicente Veloso, Leyte Governor Leopoldo Petilla, Vice Governor Carlo Loreto, and Baybay Vice Mayor Mike Cari. These personalities were apparently implicated by the elder Espinosa in his affidavit.
Albuera Top Cop Link to De Lima
In a revelation that shocked the Philippine National Police, Espinosa accused Albuera Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido of being his link to De Lima.
Espinido allegedly introduced the younger Espinosa to Dayan. He also claimed that there’s a CCTV footage that would show Espinido transacting with Superintendent Marvin Marcos outside his hotel in Albuera.
According to Espinosa, Espinido included his innocent father in the local drug list due to personal grudge.
