MANILA, Philippines - (UPDATED) Two were killed and one injured in a hostage-taking incident at SM Dasmariñas mall in Cavite on Sunday, October 9, authorities have reported.
In an interview with dzBB, former Cavite governor Jonvic Remulla identified the hostage-taker as Carlos Marcos Lacdao, 32, from Leyte.
Superintendent Rodolfo Hernandez, chief of the Dasmariñas City police told dzMM that the incident was caused by a "love triangle" between a married couple.
It was clarified that Lacdao is not a mall employee and his wife, who is working as janitress was not among the victims of the hostage-taking contrary to earlier reports.
"Hinahanap ang asawa at supposed lover ng kanyang asawa. Naka-shades, naka-backpack, very agitated siya. Nagmumura, sumisigaw, hinahanap ang supposed lover ng asawa," Remulla told GMA News.
Lacdao reportedly used a 12-inch knife and took hostage 12 persons inside the comfort room of the mall's ground floor.
The hostage drama started at 11:00 in the morning and ended around 2:55 p.m. as the police decided to shoot Lacdao who succumbed to death due to gun wounds in the head and neck.
At that point, Lacdao is pointing knife to a woman hostage identified as Mylene Balajadia. GMA News has reported that Balajadia was unhurt but agitated.
