MANILA, Philippines - Authorities have released the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the brutal killing of Nick Russell Oniot, an Adamson architecture student stabbed 18 times in Taguig City on Friday night, October 14.
The disturbing footage showed the 18-year-old student was walking along Martinez St. Barangay Central Signal Village in Taguig when two men started attacking him in an attempt to snatch his bag. Since Oniot refused to give his bag, one of the suspects stabbed him multiple times.
As the suspects fled the scene, Oniot tried to plead for help from passing motorists but none of them offered to give help. Several onlookers witnessed how Oniot tried to fight for his life but also refused to rush him to the hospital.

In his interview with Saksi, Oniot’s father expressed his frustration over the untimely killing of his son. He said witnesses could have helped save the life of his son.
“Sana ay nagmalasakit sila, nakita nila yung anak ko naka-uniporme, may I.D. Hindi naman masamang tao, baka iniisip nila masama na ang tao,” he said.
With the help of the CCTV footage, authorities were able to identify the two suspects: Ricardo Clave, 29 and Marvin Bernardo, 36. Bernardo, who was responsible for the stabbing, got killed while being arrested after he snatched a policeman’s gun in an attempt to escape.
Based on an emotional Facebook post of Oniot’s former girlfriend, the architecture student chose to remain single in order to focus on his studies. Esmieh Gallago, Oniet’s ex-girlfriend shared some of her conversations with Oniot on the social network.
“Dati okay lang sakin na naghiwalay tayo kasi alam ko na makakausap at makikita pa kita, ngayon hindi okay sakin na wala ka na talaga at hinding hindi na kita makikita at makakausap pa. All I can do is to pray for you and sending my hugs and all the words I want to tell you there in Heaven,” Gallago wrote in the caption of her post.
Despite going on separate ways, the two remained friends before Oniot’s life was cut short.
