'Voice' singer Christina Grimmie dies after being shot at Florida concert

Singer Christina Grimmie, known for competing 'The Voice' in United States, died on Friday night (Saturday afternoon in Philippine Time) after she was shot at a concert in Florida, police confirmed.

"With deep regret, we have confirmed Christina Grimmie, @TheRealGrimmie has died from her injuries," Orlando Police shared the bad news on its Twitter page.

A publicist for Grimmie, Heather Walsh, also told the Guardian through an email on Saturday that “we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord.”

According to reports, the 22-year old singer had performed with the band Before You Exit at The Plaza Live in Orlando. As the concert ended around 10 in the evening, Grimmie was shot while she was signing autographs.

Police said that her brother immediately tackled the gunman. The suspect then shot himself.

As of press time, the gunman's identity and the reason for killing Grimmie are still unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

Grimmie, who was born in New Jersey, got the third place in Season 6 of the US series of The Voice, competing on the team of Maroon 5 star Adam Levine. She also have a strong following on Youtube with some of her videos amassing millions of views.
