DAVAO CITY, Philippines - Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte’s son and Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte is not exempted from Davao City’s law on over-speeding.
On Friday, June 17, the younger Duterte was apprehended for exceeding the maximum speed limit of 40kph at Bangkal, Davao City. A photo of his Temporary Operator’s Permit issued by the Land Transportation Office, which he shared on his Facebook page, revealed he was driving at 57kph.
In the caption of the post, Paolo said he was forced to go home fast because his wife was angry.
Paolo explained ” Pandamay ning ga dali ta ug uli kay suko na si Kumander.”
(I needed to get home as soon as possible, my wife is now angry.)
The young Duterte even joked that if authorities are basing on looks, they should have arrested his younger brother Sebastian “Baste” instead of him. However, Paolo pointed out that there is no speed limit in surfing.
Followers of Paolo commended him for respecting the law of Davao City and giving importance to his wife. As of press time, his Facebook post has amassed almost 4,000 shares.
“Congratulations to you,Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte for instilling to the law enforcers strict compliance of laws and anyone who violates it will be responsible for his/her actions,” a certain Pat Sollano commented on his post.
After signing the Executive Order No. 39 on October 29, 2013, President-elect Rodrigo Duterte was very strict in implementing speed limits in Davao City. In fact, his daughter and incoming Mayor Sara Duterte was also apprehended for going beyond speed limit on Quimpo Boulevard in January 2014.
According to Duterte, EO 39 was created to address the alarming rise in traffic incidents in the city, mainly caused by speeding and reckless driving.
Under the provisions of Republic Act No. 4136 and Davao City’s traffic ordinance, penalties, fines and arrest, if warranted, will be imposed on violators.
