MANILA, Philippines – Pinoy netizens and basketball aficionados went insane after watching a video of Garvo Lanete showing his 3-point expertise on a regular training day.
The former San Beda Red Lion and Gilas Cadet gunner taped himself on court together with an assistant while shooting around. Lanete sank 19 straight treys on the right corner and 23 successive three pointers on the right wing.
The 26’ year old Lanete, younger brother of Barako Bull shooting guard Chico Lanete posted the video on his own Facebook account on Saturday and now with almost a thousand likes and 300 plus shares.

Many netizens were wowed by Lanete’s awesome three point shooting skills and even dubbed him as the “Pinoy Stephen Curry” which Garvo appreciates for he is a “Splash Brothers” and Stephen Curry Believer. Lanete even posted Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson sleeved-alternate away jerseys in support for the NBA’s dynamic duo and Golden State Warriors. But some are still skeptical on the video.
Garvo Lanete who helped the San Beda community in its 4 out of 5 basketball championships from 2007 to 2011 is still one of the hottest draft prospects in PBA ever since he finished his collegiate duties. But the 6’1” guard decided to skip the draft in 2013 and 2014 in order to further develop his basketball skills under Gilas Cadet Program.
Sport rumors are circulating that Brgy. Ginebra San Miguel Head Coach Frankie Lim is quite interested in Garvo Lanete whom he mentored and cherished with 4 Championships in NCAA.
Lim who assumed Ato Agustin in Gins’ coaching chores still have faith in his former Red Lions. Earlier this year, just weeks after he took the job, Lim and Ginebra Management entered into a 4-team trade that shipped their ex-backup center Billy Mamaril to Globalport Batang Pier in exchange for Dave Marcelo whom he also mentored in San Beda along with Garvo Lanete.
Another bigtime trade move happened during Coach Frankie’s young tenure in order to upgrade Ginebra’s aging and ailing roster line-up. The Gins sent ex-Gilas Shooting Forward Dylan Ababou and their 2013 4th overall pick, James Forrester to Barako Bull with its 2015 1st round pick in return.
Currently, Ginebra is set to pick 4th in this year’s draft. Garvo Lanete has already expressed his intent in joining this year’s talent-loaded draft together with Fil-Tongan and PBA DLeague MVP Moala Tautuaa who is projected to be picked 1st overall, Ateneo Guard Chris Newsome, Archer Center Norbert “Big Bear” Torres, National U and Sinag Pilipinas Center Troy Rosario, UE Point Guard Roi Sumang and uncertain Ray Ray Parks who’s currently in the US to participate in NBA Summer League after getting invited by the Dallas Mavericks hours after the NBA Annual draft last Friday.
With Ginebra’s Mark Caguioa and Jay Jay Helterbrand almost past their primes, the PBA’s most popular team really needs fresher legs who can emulate the Fast and Furious style of game ball. Lanete, with no doubt will be a perfect fit for Gin Kings. The Lim-Lanete San Beda connection will be a great factor also in order for Ginebra to bolster its roster. - D' Waterboy/TheSummitExpress
