MANILA, Philippines - What do you think will happen if a python ate a porcupine?
Spotted in Lake Eland Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on June 14, a cyclist has witnessed a very engorged snake when it ate a porcupine for supper. He snapped some photos and shared them to social media, which quickly atracted attention of locals according to news.discovery.com.
The Lake Eland Game Reserve Facebook page shared that the python has been found dead a week after.
"Sadly ,the African Rock Python that became an overnight sensation has been found dead. The 3.9m long Python was found to have ingested a 13.8kg Porcupine. Autopsy showed Porcupine quills lodged in the snakes digestive tract."
LiveScience said that pythons and other snakes do sometimes eat porcupines. However, many snakes end up regretting their choice of snack. A study published in 2003 in the Phyllomedusa Journal of Herpetology found that a porcupine's quills can pierce all the way through a hungry snake's body.
Park rangers also took measurements of the snake's massive body, which measured 12.8 feet (3.9 meters) long.
