MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) officially opened the 2014–2015 season to mark the 40th edition of the league on Sunday, October 19 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.
The new PBA Season is expected to finish by August 2015. The league will continue to use the three-conference format, starting with the Philippine Cup. The Commissioner's Cup and the Governors' Cup are the second and third conferences for this season.

This is also the first season that the league will have 12 regular teams. The two new teams are Kia Sorento and Blackwater Elite.
The entry of Kia Motors and Blackwater, and NLEX’s takeover of Air21 have made the PBA a 12-team league, adding importance to the league’s celebration in turning 40.
Another highlight of the grand season opener is the presentation of Gilas Pilipinas, which made the nation proud with its riveting performance in the FIBA World Cup in Spain last month.
The opening ceremony was graced by a bevy of beauties serving as muses which started at 1:30 p.m. and to be followed by the Kia-Blackwater match at 3:30 p.m. then the Ginebra-Talk n Text setto at 5:15 p.m.
The special event draws a crowd of over 50,000 in the spanking, new venue by the side of the North Luzon Expressway.
