MANILA, Philippines - The country's finest mixed martial artist Brandon 'The Truth' Vera will be featured on ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) return to Manila on December 5, 2014 for its annual year-end event.
The announcement was done on Wednesday in a press conference held at the NBA Café Manila, Bonifacio Global City. Brandon Vera who led the event came alongside MMA legend Rich Franklin.
Vera has long been one of the most dangerous big men in MMA. His vicious brand of Muay Thai has struck terror into the hearts of all opponents who have stood across him inside the cage.
However, Vera has struggled to put wins together in the MMA scene in 2006. In the past two years, Vera has only fought twice, once in 2011 and once in 2012. Both were losses to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Ben Rothwell in the UFC.
After signing with MMA giant ONE FC recently, Vera returns to Manila to bring honor and glory to his people. He currently holds a record with 12 wins, seven losses, and one no-contest.
Vera is part Filipino, Italian and American and a former member of the US Air Force wrestling team. Aside from Muay Thai, he is well-versed in wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He is expected to be one of the most dominant Heavyweights in ONE FC.
“I just want to say thank you to all of you for coming out and ONE FC, thank you for the opportunity,” Vera said.
“Since day 1, I’ve always dreamed of fighting in Manila. I have not been able to do that in any other organization. I’m blessed that I’ll be able to showcase my talent. I’m humbled by your guys and thankful,” the Fil-Am MMA fighter added.
“I’ll be fighting at 265 pounds,” said Vera who fought at light heavyweight for most of his career. “I’m tired of cutting weight because I like rice too much.”
ONE FC is Asia's largest Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) organization. It has partnered with FOX and Star Sports for a 10-year cable televison deal with a coverage that spans more than 70 countries across the world.
