Apple announces iOS 8, available for free download in September 2014

Manila, Philippines - Apple announced today, June 3, 2014 the iOS 8 dubbed as the 'biggest release since the launch of the App Store.' Apple CEO Tim Cook just put months of speculation to end by pulling back the curtain on iOS 8 during the company's WWDC 2014 keynote address in San Francisco, USA.

The new iOS 8 promised to deliver a simpler, faster and more intuitive user experience, including iCloud Photo Library, allowing you to enjoy your photos and videos more easily across your devices. The new Messages features easy sharing of video or photos with just a swipe. The entirely new Health app promised to give a clear overview of your health and fitness data all in one place.

iOS 8 also includes predictive typing for Apple’s QuickType keyboard; Family Sharing, the easiest way to share purchases, photos and calendars within the same household; and iCloud Drive, so you can store files and access them from anywhere.

The iCloud Photo Library and iCloud Drive will use your iCloud storage with the first 5GB free.

Additional iOS 8 features include interface enhancement of iOS 7 for quick access to key contacts, extended Spotlight capabilities and greater continuity between iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Apple has just announced that iOS beta software and SDK are now available for free download for iOS Developer Program members at developer.apple.com. iOS 8 will be publicly available this September 2014 as a free software update for iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina display.

Immediately after the unveiling on Tuesday, 'iOS 8' became a trending topic in the Philippines particularly on micro-blogging site Twitter.

A day before, its major competitor Samsung Mobile also announced their latest flagship device, the Tizen powered smartphone - Samsung Z. Read more here.
