Manila, Philippines - Veteran broadcaster Tony Calvento on Friday, May 16, 2014 revealed photos of additional suspect in the mauling of the actor-host Vhong Navarro last January 22.
Calvento said that the 'John Doe' in the Vhong Navarro case is Edgardo Sampana. He's the man verified by the mauled comedian in his interviews.
On April 20, Calvento reported the involvement of 'John Doe' in the controversial incident. Sampana was the one holding the duct tape as viewed through the CCTV footage in the elevator of Forbeswood Heights condominium who went with Zimmer Raz and Bernice Lee.
Calvento was given the chance to talk to Sampana over the phone last April through Jed Fernandez who was trying to facilitate the surrender of one of the accused. However, Fernandez backed-out as state witness in just a week after the explosive details were revealed to media.
Sampana will now be included in the list of the suspects after the authority amend the information. National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is now looking and verifying the information given by Manuel Jojo Tan, an emissary of Jed Fernandez.
Some of the accused in the Vhong Navarro case were already arrested such as businessman and the alleged mastermind Cedric Lee and body builder Zimmer Raz. Deniece Cornejo, with rape complaint against Navarro dismissed by the Department of Justice (DOJ), surrendered to the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame early this month.
Today, Vhong Navarro is expected to testify and narrate the events and be crossed examined by the counsels of Cedric Lee and other accused the sala of Judge Paz Esperanza Cortez. This is in connection with the petition for bail filed by the accused.The Hon. Judge Cortez is also expected to make a ruling on the Motion for Stay of Cedric and Zimmer at the NBI or whether the judge will rule that they be transferred at the Taguig City Jail.
Other suspects in the mauling incident including Jose Paolo Calma and Ferdinand Guerrero are still hiding the law. DOJ Secretary Leila de Lima said in her previous interviews, the authorities are doing everything to get them.
