Former President of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Friday was rushed to intensive care unit (ICU) of Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) hospital due to ischemia.
The bad news is confirmed by VMMC director Dr. Nona Legaspi. She said that Arroyo suffers from heart-related problem characterized by chest pain or blockage of a blood vessel going to the heart.
The case may result to the cancellation of arraignment at Sandiganbayan on Monday, October 15 for the plunder case against her.
Legaspi then said Mrs Arroyo's condition is "ominous" and “can progress." "Ischemia should not be taken lightly. That can progress to a full-blown... heart attack," the VMMC director explained.
Last week, Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant against Arroyo for the P366-M plunder suit earlier filed against her and nine others by the Ombudsman.
This year, Mrs Arroyo had already been arraigned for two cases: electoral sabotage in February and for alleged graft in April. She pleaded not guilty in both proceedings as reported.
The condition of Mrs. Arroyo trended on Twitter Philippines with mixed emotion of sympathy from those still believed on her.
