For I need to support my prediction that Jessica Sanchez will be the grand winner for Season 11 of American Idol, I made a data research using Google Trends to compare who's the most popular in America for the remaining Idol contestants.

Statistics is very useful tool to compare something and interpret results in order. Just like TV ratings or trends on twitter, Google Trends can give accurate and real-time results.
With Google Trends, you can compare the world’s interest in your favorite topics. Enter up to five topics and see how often they’ve been searched on Google over time. Google Trends also shows how frequently your topics have appeared in Google News stories, and in which geographic regions people have searched for them most.
For the comparison of the Idol contestants, we still include Skylar Laine in the list since the maximum number of items is five. From this, we are going to interpret why Skylar Laine was voted off.
The graph shown above is extracted from Google Trends with the following conditions:
- five Idol contestants are compared
- United States is the chosen location with all subregions represented
- Captured date is 2012 to compare volume of search impact
Analysis:
We made Jessica Sanchez as our reference, meaning it is set to 1.0. Subsequent Idol finalists are scaled and ranked against her. The number to the right of their names are not absolute search traffic numbers but the average search traffic in the chosen time period relative to the total traffic. As we can see, search impact related to Jessica Sanchez is far better than the four finalists. Searches for Philip Philips is 6 over 10 (60%) of Jessica. Searches related to Joshua Ledet and Hollie Cavanagh is only 30% of Jessica while Skylar Laine is at the bottom with only 22% relative to the total search impact related to Sanchez.
We can reflect this results with the last elimination that happened. If we will follow analytics, popularity of Skylar Laine in Google search engine is not good. Skylar Laine was eliminated as she received the least number of votes. If we are going to relate the relationship of television to the online media, Internet has a major impact to television and vice versa. We know that Google is the most popular search engine, and accuracy of sampling is not an issue.
The graph below the search volume index is the news reference graph. It shows the number of times the topic appeared in Google News stories. When Google Trends detects a spike in the volume of news stories for a particular search term, it labels the graph and displays the headline of an automatically selected Google News story written near the time of that spike. Based from this graph, judges saving for Jessica Sanchez has created an impact and highest search spike last April 13, 2012. On the other hand,it seems that Joshua Ledet is the most consistent in terms of news reference volume.
Comparison by subregion in America also shows dominance of Jessica Sanchez in US search engine.
Except for one, which is the region of Lousiana where Joshua Ledet came from. Joshua is Louisiana's favorite son in the American Idol competition.
Conclusion:
With the comparison above, I can say that the top three for AI Season 11 will be:
1. Jessica Sanchez
2. Joshua Ledet
3. Phillip Phillips
Hollie Cavanagh will be eliminated next.
Jessica Sanchez is the grand champion for this season.
