‘Beauty and brains’ failed to get Latin honors becomes ‘regional topnotcher’ in 2024 CLE

MANILA, Philippines – “𝐉𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐁𝐄𝐂𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐋 𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐃𝐎𝐄𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐌𝐄𝐀𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐔'𝐑𝐄 𝐆𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐀 𝐅𝐀𝐈𝐋 𝐀𝐓 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆.”

This statement of Hollywood star and model Marilyn Monroe served as the inspiring quote that Jenny-Hazel Steuernagel held on to after passing the February 2024 Board Licensure Examination for Criminologists (BLEC) and being recognized as the "regional topnotcher" by the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PCAP) – Region IV Chapter.

According to Jenny-Hazel's Facebook post on May 25, 2024, she had dreamed of receiving an academic honor at graduation since her first year in college. Unfortunately, that did not happen. At first, it was hard for her to accept, but she eventually chose to move on.

“When I entered college and became a Criminology student, pinangako ko na sa aking sarili na makapag tapos ng may karangalan. Pero nabigo ako na abutin ang aking pangarap. At first, it was sad and painful for me to accept it, but what I did was just accept the fact and moved on. I just said that "Maybe God has a better plan for me,” she said, a graduate of Cavite State University.

But Jenny-Hazel’s dreams didn’t end there. Her next goal was to pass the board exam and become a topnotcher.

“Fast forward. Hindi ako natapos mangarap sa kabila ng hindi ko pag-abot ng pinaka aasam ko na mag tapos sana ng may latin honor. Bagkus, mas pinag igihan ko pa lalo ang pag-aaral, dinoble ang oras na ginugugol sa pag babasa at pag susulat ng mga review materials para pag handaang mabuti ang paparating namin noong Criminologist Licensure Examination,” she continued.

And this time, she did not fail.

“During our board exam days, nangarap akong muli at sinabing "Dito ako babawi, nabigo man ako sa pagkamit ng pagka karoon ng latin honor pero pinapangako ko na sisikapin kong muling masabitan ng medalya.”

“And now, my dream turns into reality. I was awarded as one of the Regional Topnotcher in Region IV-A CALABARZON. This wouldn't happen if it wasn't for the good foundation that my college Cavite State University-College of Criminal Justice has. And also with the help of all our professors and faculty staff members. I am very thankful and filled with [gratitude].”

“Muli, maraming salamat sa Diyos, sa aking pamilya, kaibigan at sa aking mahal na kolehiyo,” she finally said.

Congratulations, Jenny-Hazel!
