Magnitude 5.6 earthquake shakes Metro Manila, Luzon areas on April 8, 2017

MANILA, Philippines - (Updated 5:30 p.m.) The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported a magnitude 5.6 earthquake that shook parts of Metro Manila and Luzon on Saturday afternoon, April 8, 2017.

The exact time of occurrence was recorded at 03:07:00 p.m. with epicenter at 13.75°N, 120.93°E - 001 km S 53° W of Mabini, Batangas.

UPDATES

The earthquake that occurred has a tectonic origin with 27 km depth of focus.

The strong quake was felt at Intensity VII in Mabini, Batangas; Intensity IV in Calatagan, Nasugbu and Tingloy, Batangas.

Intensity V was recorded in Batangas City, Sto. Tomas and Lemery Batangas; Tagaytay City.

Intensity IV was felt in Dasmarinas, Cavite; Lucena City and Pateros.

Meanwhile, Intensity III in Makati, Pasay, Quezon City, Muntinlupa, Malabon, Mandaluyong and Bacoor, Cavite.

Intensity II felt in Daet, Camarines Sur.

Meanwhile, scientific agency United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a higher magnitude of 5.9 with epicenter at Talaga Proper, Mabini, Batangas.

Followers of The Summit Express said they felt the earthquake in Metro Manila, Cavite, Rizal, Pampanga, Laguna, Batangas and Quezon.


Phivolcs warned of possible aftershocks and damages from the quake.
