MANILA, Philippines - The Malacañang Palace has declared December 26, 2016 (Monday) and January 2, 2017 (Monday) as a special non-working days throughout the country.
Acting Executive Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra, as authorized by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, signed Proclamation No. 117 on Tuesday to give the Filipinos full opportunity to celebrate the holidays with their families and loved ones.
December 25 and January 1 both fall on a Sunday are regular holidays throughout the country.
"With the longer weekend promotes domestic tourism and enables employers to plan their work schedules effectively and efficiently, resulting in an improved productivity," the proclamation reads.
