MANILA, Philippines - President Rodrigo Duterte has delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the opening of the 17th Congress today, July 25, 2016 at Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City. Contrary to the previous administration, President Duterte used English language in the delivery of SONA and the speech lasted for more than 1 hour.
Duterte’s first SONA touched on his campaign promises and has enumerated his achievements in fighting drugs, crime, and corruption and in winning the peace in all fronts in the 25 days he has been in office.
It served as opportunity for the President to spell out his legislative agenda to both Houses of Congress.
In general, SONA 2016 was focused on “powerful message of change” that is set to chart the nation’s course in the next six years.
