MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines' bet Jamie Herrell won the Miss Earth 2014 crown in the grand coronation night held on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the UP Theater in Diliman, Quezon City.
Herrel has bested 84 other candidates in the 14th edition Miss Earth pageant. This is the second time the Philippines topped in the said beauty contest with a cause.
During the question and answer round, Miss Earth candidates were asked: "If you win tonight's crown, what will you do to help slow down or reverse the effects of global warming?"
Miss Philippines - Earth Herrel confidently answered: “Global warming has been (an) overdue issue. I will use my title to inspire others, help our environment and start with kids. They will be the people of tomorrow if we teach them. They will help the community.”
Other winners include Miss Earth-Air: Miss USA Andrea Neu, Miss Earth-Water: Miss Venezuela Maria Alexandra Rodriguez, and Miss Earth-Fire: Miss Russia Anastasia Trusova.
Delegates from the following countries made the top 8: Brazil, Mongolia, Slovak Republic, Venezuela, USA, Philippines, Russia and Spain.
The Semi-finalists (Top 16) include: Colombia, Egypt, Korea, Mexico, Scotland, Tahiti, Thailand and Zambia.
Miss Earth has a theme to promote ecotourism which aims to raise awareness to the tourists and travelers regarding ecological conservation in order to directly benefit the economic development and to foster respect for different cultures and for human rights.
