Manila, Philippines - City Mayor of Manila Joseph Estrada declared on Friday, January 3 an order of class suspension on Thursday, January 9, 2014 as the city will hold the annual International Pilgrimage of the Black Nazarene.
In the executive order no. 41 released by the Office of the Mayor, it says that suspension of classes covers all levels in all universities, colleges and schools in Manila. It was recommended for public order and safety.
"Every year, thousands of pilgrims from all over the country come to Manila to be part of the procession of the Black Nazarene. Millions of people are expected to join the celebration.", EO 41 stated.
The organizers said that an estimate of 12 million people are expected to join the activities marking the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

The Feast of Black Nazarene on January 9 commemorates the 'Traslación' or Passage of life-sized, dark wooden statue of Jesus Christ through procession or transfer of the image to its present shrine in Quiapo church. Highlight of the celebration is the grand procession of sea of devotees from Luneta at seven in the morning.
