Cebu, Philippines (7:22PM Update) - A magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale earthquake hits Visayas Region with epicenter in the province of Bohol Tuesday morning today (8:12am), October 15, 2013. At least 67 people died according to NDRRMC -9 from Cebu, 57 in Bohol and 1 in Siquijor.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) and the United States Geological Service(USGS) recorded the quake from two to five kilometers southeast of Carmen, Bohol. The quake struck at a depth of about 35 km (22 miles).
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii announced that there was no threat of a Pacific-wide tsunami after the quake.
Reports say that earthquake was felt in different areas in Visayas and Mindanao. Intensity VI felt over Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, intensity V in Iloilo, City, intensity IV in Masbate City and intensity III in Davao City.
As of 3:15pm, Philvolcs has recorded 241 aftershocks in the areas of Visayas and Mindanao. Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said that the number or frequency of aftershocks will "diminish in time." He earlier said that the aftershocks may continue for a week.
Some major structures in the Visayas region were damaged. The facade of Baclayon Church - a UNESCO Heritage site and National Historic Treasure in 1995 was also damaged. Also, the historic century old Loboc Church in Bohol collapsed in front and back portions. Pedro Calungsod chapel is also partially damaged after the strong earthquake hits Cebu.
OCD Cebu Engr. Ver Neil Balaba said that rapid damage assessment and needs analysis ongoing in Cebu areas and also in Bohol.

Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific Air advised via Twitter that all flights to and from Tagbilaran and Cebu have been suspended in the meantime.
