Manila, Philippines – Filipinos had shown their dedication to preserve mother Earth through participating Earth Hour. Simultaneous switching-off events were happened at the three key cities of the country - Makati, Cebu and Davao City.
In Makati City, it was spearheaded by environmentalist and fashion model Catherine Untalan and Rovilson Fernandez, WWF- Philippines Ambassador.
Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay expressed his gratitude to WWF for choosing the city as the focal venue of the largest global call for action on climate change.
“We are very much honored with the continuing trust shown by WWF in our city as its partner in this noble endeavor. It is gratifying to note that Earth Hour has been gaining momentum throughout the city, with more and more barangays and private companies joining each year,” Binay said.
With the theme “I Will If You Will”, Earth Hour 2012 aims to underscore the power of every individual to reverse the damage wrought on planet Earth by greenhouse gas emissions that have largely caused global warming and the resulting climate change phenomenon.
It aims to connect and unite people from family circles and communities, companies and organizations towards the common goal of creating a positive environmental outcome.
The event started with an Earth-themed parade of participants from Makati Central Fire Station at Ayala Avenue Extension and ended at Ayala Tower One where the Earth Hour gathering was staged.
Parade participants include Bailles de Luces, Lancer Band, Caracol performers, Makati representatives, Pascual Laboratories and Informatix contingents, Bus/Ejeep Groups, and Makati school and barangay contingents.
Angklung Ensemble Musical, Caracol Dancers of Benigno High School and shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra, also performed in the event.
